Diversity Initiatives

The Bar Association of San Francisco has long served as a national leader in efforts to achieve equal opportunity in the legal profession.

Our efforts are rooted in a pivotal 1987 study, commissioned by the University of California, which discovered "profound disadvantages within the city's legal workplaces." Acting on this report, the BASF Board of Directors adopted our Goals and Timetables for Minority Hiring and Advancement. These goals and timetables have become the cornerstone of our diversity efforts over the past 20 years, and have lead to the establishment of numerous diversity programs within our organization.

Today, we continue to research and issue regular Goals and Timetables reports. Much of this work is led by BASF’s Equality Committees. Many of our diversity educational programs are now led by our sister organization, the Justice & Diversity Center.
