By Arshpreet Multani

On the evening of Wednesday, June 1 members gathered atop Salesforce Tower to celebrate BASF's In-House Counsel Awards Gala. Thank you to all who joined us for our first in-person event in more than two years as we shined the spotlight on corporate attorneys whose talents have spanned their entire careers.

"It was a sparkling occasion hosted by many of our Leaders Circle firms, with special thanks to our VIP sponsors, friends and colleagues at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, especially Matthew Kahn and Stewart McDowell," said BASF President Mary McNamara. Congratulations to our honorees, Matt Fawcett, Victoria Diana Baranetsky, Katie Colendich, Eva Almirantearena, as well as the Instacart and Lyft law departments.

The evening felt vibrant and cheerful, complete with speeches from BASF leaders including Yolanda Jackson, Executive Director and General Counsel, BASF and Executive Director, JDC. “I think in-house attorneys have a unique opportunity in their roles as being a lawyer whose job it is to manage risk, to be analytical, and to get organizations out of trouble,” said Jackson. “But they also have the dual role of being colleagues to everyone within a corporation. And that’s a delicate balance that in-house attorneys walk every day.”

“To navigate those two spaces and still step outside of your work to do amazing things, in terms of making your legal department stand out, being interested in diversity, public safety, and public protection, takes really unique individuals and those are the folks that we are going to honor tonight," said Jackson.

"This evening is to the innovators. The people in-house, who as Ted very eloquently said, managed to marry entrepreneurship with lawyering,” said McNamara.

Watch the video below to catch a glimpse of the night, with speeches from Jackson, McNamara, Ted Ting, as well as the honorees.

A special thank you to all our Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze sponsors.
