US Supreme Court upholds Tennessee law banning youth transgender care | Reuters

The Supreme Court’s recent decision in United States v. Skrmetti represents a significant departure from protecting the constitutional and civil rights of transgender, nonbinary, and intersex individuals. By upholding measures that deny essential care to marginalized communities, the Court has sent a deeply troubling message that undermines the autonomy and dignity of those most vulnerable. This ruling risks emboldening further discriminatory actions and policies, creating an environment of hostility and potential and actual harm to the transgender, nonbinary, and intersex community.

We demand equity and justice for all LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly transgender, nonbinary, and intersex individuals. We stand in solidarity with the advocates, attorneys, and organizations who continue to fight tirelessly for the rights and well-being of transgender, nonbinary, and intersex people. It is critical to support community-led efforts, invest in affirming spaces, and take meaningful action to protect and uplift those impacted by this decision. We encourage you to support BALIF’s (Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom) efforts that address these matters. Together, we will continue to resist injustice and work toward a future where every person’s identity, dignity, and humanity are respected and protected.
