In 2015, BASF launched the “Pro Bono Pledge,” a call to action encouraging members and law firms to give back with pro bono service. A set of pro bono pledges, one aimed at law firms and one at individual attorneys, urged 50 hours of pro bono service or taking one pro bono matter during the year.

Keker & Van Nest (KVN), a BASF Leader Circle firm, completed the Pro Bono Pledge on a firm-wide basis.

In an impressive showing, all of the firm’s attorneys completed at least 50 hours of pro bono service in 2015. Members of Keker & Van Nest’s Pro Bono Committee are extremely proud of the firm’s commitment to giving back to the community.

Simona Agnolucci, a partner and member of Keker’s committee fulfilled her hours through working on immigration matters involving minors and said about her work: “I am proud to have been on two teams that successfully represented unaccompanied minors in immigration proceedings this year. These children fled horrible conditions in their home countries, survived the dangerous journey to the United States, and are thrilled to call San Francisco their home.”

Partner Daniel Purcell perfectly summed up Keker’s involvement in pro bono service and what it means to the firm, “Keker & Van Nest is proud beyond words that all of our attorneys have met the challenge set by BASF in completing 50 hours of pro bono service this year. In most cases, KVN attorneys spent many more hours than that on pro bono matters. Our system of justice so often falls woefully short of providing equal access, and this problem is only getting worse. Our pro bono work is just a drop in the bucket, but we strive for a system that is open and responsive to everyone, not just the wealthy and powerful.”
