As part of its mission to support and strengthen local nonprofits, JDC’s Community Organization Representation Project (CORP) regularly partners with law firms and volunteer attorneys to provide free legal clinics for organizations serving low-income and underserved communities. This October, CORP helped organize two such events focusing on the areas of real estate and employment law.
On October 4, attorneys from Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass met with representatives of five local nonprofits to provide consultations on real estate issues like lease negotiations, shared space agreements, exit strategies, and more. With help of the volunteers from Coblentz, these organizations are better prepared to handle the Bay Area’s competitive commercial real estate market and continue providing invaluable services to their 7,000-plus clients.
On October 19, volunteers from the Association of Corporate Counsel’s (ACC) San Francisco Bay Chapter partnered with Miller Law Group to provide seven local nonprofits with assessments of their employment policies and procedures. Participants received reviews of their employee handbooks, classifications, and hiring and termination practices to ensure compliance with the latest local, state, and federal employment laws. The ACC volunteers received rave reviews from clients, and special thanks to the team at Miller Law Group for offering employment law expertise and securing a stunning setting for the event – the top floor of the Transamerica Pyramid!
