The Marin County Superior Court invites any lawyer with more than 10 years of experience to apply to serve as a volunteer Judge Pro Tem in the Small Claims department. Interested attorneys must submit their application to administration@marin.courts.ca.gov.
Before the court can appoint a Judge Pro Tem for small claims, that attorney must receive the following training:
- In-person or live online Bench Conduct and Demeanor training (Note: the Court will offer this training via Zoom on TUES March 24, 2026, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM). To register for this Zoom training, please send an email to administration@marin.courts.ca.gov. Anyone interested is strongly encouraged to attend the Zoom training as it does not occur regularly.
- The 3-hour in-person or online Introduction to Judicial Ethics for Temporary Judges training approved by the Judicial Council of California (JCC) for temporary judges.
- The 3-hour in-person or online Small Claims Court: Consumer and Substantive Laws training approved by the JCC.
- The 2-hour online course for Small Claims Court: Procedures and Practices training approved by the JCC.
We look forward to having you join us at the TUES March 24, 2026, training and joining our roster of volunteer temporary judges. Please visit the court’s new Temporary Judge Program webpage for more information.
