VLSP Executive Director Goes Back to School

VLSP Executive Director Tiela Chalmers recently returned from Harvard Business School, where she spent one week at an intensive training program for leaders of nonprofits.  The program, entitled Strategic Perspectives in Non-Profit Management, is conducted once a year by members of the HBS faculty, and provides the opportunity for senior executives to examine their mission and develop new strategies for the changing economy. Participants gathered to discuss and learn proactive methods for mastering nonprofit leadership in uncertain times.

Chalmers joined 154 leaders from around the world, including Australia, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Kenya and India.

“The experience was transformative,” Chalmers said. “I came back with concrete tools and analytical frameworks to apply to our work, and am excited to share those with the VLSP staff and board.”

Tiela Goes to Harvard Business School Training

Chalmers was one of three Bay Area executive directors who received a competitive scholarship to underwrite her attendance at the program from Harvard Business School Community Partners.  HBS Community Partners was established in 1986 by the Harvard Business School Alumni Association of Northern California to provide alumni the opportunity to apply their business and management skills as volunteer consultants working on challenging and worthwhile projects in the nonprofit sector.
