Judge Laurel Beeler Honored by The Bar Association of San Francisco’s Barristers Club at 31st Annual Judges Reception

July 17, 2015 – San Francisco - The Barristers Club of The Bar Association of San Francisco presented its Tara L. Riedley Barristers Choice Award at the 31st Annual Judges Reception on July 16 to Magistrate Judge Laurel Beeler, United States District Court, Northern District of California.

This award is given each year to one judge serving in San Francisco to recognize his or her extraordinary efforts to educate and encourage young lawyers that are new to the practice of law and the courtroom. In addition, the award recognizes work done outside the courtroom in support of programs of the Barristers Club.

More than 250 members of the legal community, including fifty state and federal judges and their clerks, attended the Judges Reception which was held at the Judicial Council of California. The event was chaired by Jessica Ryland along with a committee of more than 20 Bay Area attorneys and law students.

Judge Beeler, a former BASF board member, received the award  for her dedication to mentoring new lawyers, including her law clerks and other judge’s law clerks. She also teaches a Civil Trial Practice at UC Hastings Law School and has mentored many of her students while they navigate the transition from law school to practice, and continues to keep in touch with them. Judge Beeler thoroughly enjoys meeting people early in their law careers and engaging with them along the way to help them determine their career path.  She says it is good for young lawyers to have a sounding board from different types of attorneys.
