Retired Justice James Lambden Honored by The Bar Association of San Francisco’s Barristers Club at 30th Annual Judges Reception

July 29, 2014 – San Francisco --The Barristers Club of The Bar Association of San Francisco presented its Tara L. Riedley Barristers Choice Award at the 30th Annual Judges Reception on July 23 to retired Justice James Lambden, California Court of Appeal.

This award is given each year to one judge serving in San Francisco to recognize his or her extraordinary efforts to educate and encourage young lawyers that are new to the practice of law and the courtroom. In addition, the award recognizes work done outside the courtroom in support of programs of the Barristers Club.

More than 250 members of the legal community, including fifty state and federal judges and their clerks, attended the Judges Reception which was held at the Administrative Office of the Courts.

Justice Lambden takes a strong interest in mentoring law students, particularly women and students of color. He has provided training and educational opportunities for literally dozens of externs from local law schools, and has mentored and guided many female and ethnically diverse attorneys. He gives liberally of his time to speak at the University of San Francisco School of Law, UC Hastings College of the Law, UC Davis School of Law, and Golden Gate University School of Law, primarily on the subjects of writing and public service. He has been actively involved for many years in The Bar Association of San Francisco’s Diversity Pipeline projects, which helps underserved students realize through hard work and education that they can be an attorney.

Proceeds from the Judges Reception help the Barristers Club expand its efforts to serve the community through volunteering, mentoring of Bay Area students and increasing diversity in the legal profession.
