Bar Association of San Francisco Executive Director Daniel Burkhardt Stepping Down; Current Deputy Executive Director Yolanda Jackson Announced as Interim Executive Director

March 28, 2014 – San Francisco – After more than 10 years, with the Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF) and nearly three years with its Justice & Diversity Center (JDC), Daniel Burkhardt has announced that he will be stepping down as Executive Director.   Dan will continue to serve the organizations as a strategic counselor to assist with the transition to new leadership.

Dan joined BASF in September 2003 as Deputy Executive Director.  The organization named him Executive Director and General Counsel in 2007, and he assumed the additional role of Executive Director of JDC in 2011 after the merger of the BASF Foundation into the former Volunteer Legal Services Program of BASF.  During his tenure, both organizations have grown increasingly strong financially and have enhanced their reputations as national leaders.

“I have been honored to work alongside many extraordinarily talented staff members and volunteer leaders” says Burkhardt, “and it has been a privilege to lead organizations that are second to none in our industry and nation.  Having served here for more than a decade, I look forward to assisting with the upcoming transition to ensure that these important organizations continue to thrive.”

“BASF was so lucky to recruit Dan in 2003,” says current BASF and JDC President Stephanie Skaff, “and we have been blessed to have his strong leadership throughout his time with us.  The legal community has seen some challenging times in recent years, but Dan will leave both BASF and JDC in very solid shape.  We are financially healthy, our membership is growing, our programs are thriving, and our community is connected and engaged.  Although we will miss Dan greatly, the strong foundation he has built will serve us well for many years to come. ”

BASF Deputy Executive Director and Diversity Director Yolanda Jackson will  assume the role of Interim Executive Director.  According to Skaff, “Yolanda combines outstanding management experience with a proven commitment to the mission and values of both BASF and JDC.  She has strong relationships with the legal community, with other bar associations, and with the BASF and JDC staff.  She also brings a commitment to fiscal discipline and efficiency that will benefit our ongoing operations and delivery of services. She is the ideal person to lead the organization during this transition and we are thrilled that she has agreed to assume the Interim Executive Director role.”

The Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF) is a nonprofit voluntary membership organization of over 8,000 attorneys, law students and legal professionals in the Bay Area.
