The Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF) and its Barristers Club Announce Awards of Merit and Barristers of the Year for 2010

Awards will be presented at Annual Luncheon on December 14

 

December 1, 2010 - San Francisco -- The following awards will be presented at The Bar Association of San Francisco’s Annual Membership Luncheon and Installation of Officers on December 14. Awards are presented to members who have made significant contributions to BASF and its new attorney division, the Barristers Club.

 

Awards of Merit Recipients

 

Joshua Rosen, Bledsoe, Cathcart, Diestel, Pedersen & Treppa

Joshua is recognized for his leadership as the chair of BASF’s Putting for the Pipeline annual charitable golf tournament committee. Through his steadfast and creative efforts in securing major sponsors and in-kind donations, in two years the Putting for the Pipeline tournament has raised more than $75,000 for BASF’s pipeline programs.  Rosen’s enthusiasm has also helped raise awareness about BASF’s efforts in diversity in the legal profession.

 

Cara K. Lowe, Stein & Lubin LLP

Patricia K. Gillette, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP

Cara and Patricia are co-chairs of the No Glass Ceiling Committee of the BASF Equality Committee.  As co-chairs of this committee they have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and creativity in developing an incredible series of three conferences in 2010 that focused on networking, marketing, career options and business development for women in the legal profession. 

Cara has been very instrumental in fundraising for these efforts. Pat has also done a phenomenal job of bringing the work of this committee into the national spotlight and in partnering with other organizations to address women’s issues in our profession.

 

Jennifer L. Shoda, Snyder Miller & Orton LLP
Jennifer has been an active member of BASF for many years and has always been very dedicated to BASF’s diversity programs.  In 2010, Jennifer was the co-chair of the Bottom Line Partnership Task Force and was the driving force in keeping the project committee on task to interview partners of color, produce a written report and organize a half-day conference.

 

Allan Joseph, Rogers Joseph O'Donnell

Allan Joseph has served on the BASF Retirement Plan Committee since 1999 and has been active as its chair since 2006.  Allan has been a steady leader throughout his service to BASF providing wise counsel and a great sense of humor to the committee.

 

Bruce Ives, Hewlett-Packard

Bruce Ives has been an active volunteer for VLSP for several years, and two years ago joined the VLSP Board of Directors, where he has worked hard on a number of issues, from program design to finance.  Bruce connected VLSP with the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC); he suggested the lunch with General Counsel items for the BASF Foundation Gala auction; and he took a leadership role on the Gala committee to reach out to other in-house corporate counsel to become involved in BASF.  Bruce's commitment to legal services for the poor and to building pro bono efforts among law firms and in-house legal departments is nationally recognized.

 

Barristers of the Year Recipients

 

Jacqueline Brown Scott, The Law Office of Jacqueline Brown Scott
Claire Hulse, Jewell & Associates, PC

Jacqueline and Claire have been very active in the Barristers Club in 2010. They completely revamped the Barristers Immigration Law Section and helped produce some of the most successful MCLE seminars of the year. Their monthly newsletter for the section has been copied by numerous other sections as a means to communicate the latest news and events for the section. In addition to their work with the Immigration Law Section they both served on the Nominating Committee for the 2011/2012 Barristers Club Board which selects new members for the Barristers Board of Directors.

 

Nnena Ukuku, Attorney at Law

Blair Walsh, McNamara, Dodge, Ney, Beatty, Slattery, Pfalzer, Borges & Brothers LLP

Nnena and Blair have served as leaders of the Barristers Social and Networking Committee for the past few years. In 2010, they instituted quarterly happy hours which feature several Barristers sections and committees – drawing hundreds of new attorneys. Along with the happy hours, they also planned the First Annual Barristers Kickball Tournament held this past October. In addition to these new events they continue to play an instrumental role with the planning of the Annual Barristers Crystal Ball, which will be held March 26, 2011.
