BASF Sends Letter to Senate Majority Leader Regarding Nomination of Judge Edward Chen

January 27, 2010-- San Francisco
-- The Board of Directors of The Bar Association of San Francisco voted unanimously to support the nomination of Magistrate Judge Edward M. Chen to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, BASF President Arturo González requested he "...promptly bring to the Senate floor for an up-or-down vote the nomination of the Honorable Edward M. Chen to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California."

Many organizations have recognized Judge Chen’s exceptional legal career and his qualifications to become a district court judge.  In 2007, the Barristers Club of BASF awarded Judge Chen its prestigious Judge of the Year Award.  In addition, in evaluating Judge Chen’s qualifications to become a U.S. district judge, BASF's Judiciary Committee gave him its top rating of "exceptionally well qualified," and the American Bar Association granted Judge Chen its highest rating of "well qualified."
