BASF Announces Bay Area Minority Law Student Scholarship Recipients
June 20, 2007 - San Francisco -- The Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF) recently announced the recipients of its 2007 Bay Area Minority Law Student Scholarships. Three scholarships were awarded to minority students planning to attend Bay Area law schools. Scholarships were awarded based on financial need, scholastics, involvement in public service, and barriers faced in life. Each recipient will receive a $10,000 scholarship for the 2007-2008 school year. The scholarship is renewable for an additional two years.
BASF's scholarship-winning recipients are Chambord V. Benton-Hayes, David Abella and Ricardo Rodriguez. Benton-Hayes graduated from University of San Francisco with degrees in Political Science and Philosophy. She will attend UC Hastings College of the Law in the fall. Abella graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Political Science. He will attend UC Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law in the fall. Rodriguez graduated from UCLA with a degree in History. He will attend UC Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law in the fall.
Since its inception in 1998, BASF's Bay Area Minority Law Student Scholarship program has provided financial assistance to 51 law students. The program was established to reaffirm a commitment to diversity in legal education and the legal profession.
Major contributors to the scholarship program this year include: Bingham McCutchen LLP; Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass LLP; Keker & Van Nest LLP; Zelle, Hofmann, Voelbel, Mason & Gette, LLP; and the Charlotte & Arthur Zitrin Foundation.
