Food from the Bar Awards Ceremony Celebrates Legal Community's Record-Breaking Effort to End Hunger in San Francisco
Annual Campaign Raised More than $255,000 for San Francisco Food Bank

San Francisco, July 14, 2006 -- The Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF) and the San Francisco Food Bank (SFFB) recognized those law firms and individuals who greatly contributed to the 2006 Food from the Bar Campaign at an awards ceremony at One Market Restaurant in San Francisco on July 11.

Food from the Bar is the legal community's annual fundraising drive to benefit the San Francisco Food Bank. Money donated, food collected and volunteer time help distribute millions of pounds of food to 450 pantries and agencies serving hungry people throughout San Francisco. The campaign ran from April 24-May 19.

"We set extremely aggressive goals and the fact that the legal community exceeded them is nothing short of amazing," said Catherine Homsey of the San Francisco Food Bank.

The campaign, in its 14th year, brought in a record setting amount with 80 participating organizations (a record number of firms) raising $255,623; 25,333 pounds of food; and contributing 1,923 volunteer hours.

"The astounding results of the Food from the Bar campaign confirm and highlight the giving nature of our legal community. We all share the common goal of making it easier for low-income families in San Francisco to feed their children. Through the generosity of law firms and law departments, we exceeded the goals set for 2006. And now, onward and upward to even higher goals in 2007," said BASF Board President, Joan Haratani.
