Mind the Gap: Practical Skills Pro Bono Initiative

Interested in becoming a Mind the Gap Mentor?

For 2013, BASF and its new President Chris Kearney, have created an exciting initiative called “Mind the Gap” (MTG).  The goal of this program is to provide recent law school graduates and young attorneys who are unemployed or underemployed with training, work experience, mentorship connections and debt reduction information.

We are looking for attorneys to serve as mentors to MTG participants.  The initial idea is to create a mentorship Listserv consisting of MTG participants and interested mentors.  The Listserv will act in a similar fashion to BASF's Solo/Small Listserv whereby mentees can post questions and mentors can respond with answers and general advice.  If one-on-one connections result from the Listserv it would be great – however, the plan is to not do any one-on-one matching at the outset.

With respect to a mentor’s time commitment, there are no set guidelines.  We only ask that you check your email on a regular basis for Listserv postings and that you respond to the Listserv as you desire.  If you then connect with a mentee one-on-one, at that point the time commitment will be determined by what you work out with your mentee.

We truly value the skills and experience that each of you has.  We hope you will seriously consider giving back in this way.

If you are interested in becoming an MTG mentor, please email mindthegapmentor@sfbar.org.
