BASF Membership Eligibility Information

Who is Eligible?

Attorneys, students and legal professionals who meet the following criteria are eligible to become BASF members.

Attorneys

Any attorney who is permitted to practice law in the United States is eligible for membership in The Bar Association of San Francisco.

Membership dues are calculated based on an attorney's first admit date to any jurisdiction in the United States.

Retired attorneys, attorneys inactive with the State Bar of California, and attorneys employed by a non-profit organization or a government agency are entitled to a 50% discount off of the regular dues rate.

Students

Any individual enrolled in a law school, or pursuing a paralegal degree, is eligible for the Student Member rate. Graduates of law school within six months after their graduation date who have not yet been admitted to practice law in any state or federal district also qualify for this rate.

Legal Professionals

A person who meets one of the following definitions is eligible to be a Legal Professional Member:

  • An individual who works under the direction or supervision of an attorney
  • An individual who manages full-time day-to-day operations, such as human resources management or financial management, for a legal organization
  • And individual who performs all of the management or administrator duties for an organization without a full time administrator
