Cy Pres - Gifts of Stocks - Planned Gifts & Bequest

Cy Pres

Our BASF Foundation benefits from the doctrine of cy pres. Cy pres directs class action residuals (and other funds resulting from lawsuits) to legal service providers and other non-profit organizations.

Our volunteer programs are candidates for cy pres awards. We invite trial lawyers involved in cases with a cy pres component to nominate the BASF Foundation in such cases.

Stock Donations

If you'd like to give a gift of stock, here are the steps you should follow:

1. Tell your broker that you would like to transfer stock to the BASF Foundation.
2. Your broker will ask for the following account information:

   Morgan Stanley Account #125-017913-053

3. Send a short letter to the BASF Foundation, notifying us of your decision to make a donation of stock. Here is a sample of what your letter should cover:

   I am writing to inform you that on [date], I 
   instructed my broker to transfer [number of shares] shares of 
   [company name] to the BASF Foundation account. 
   
   Please call me at [your contact number here] if you have any 
   questions. My address is [your address here].

4. Mail your letter to:

   BASF Foundation
   301 Battery Street, Third Floor
   San Francisco, California 94111

That's it! We'll send you an acknowledgement letter for tax purposes.

We welcome individuals who wish to provide long-term, sustainable funding. We also welcome inclusion in wills through bequest intentions.
