Bay Area Minority Law Student Scholarship Program

Join us in honoring scholarship donors and the new 2011 Bay Area Minority Law Student Scholarship recipients on October 11, 2011 at Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass LLP in San Francisco.

Our scholarship program was established to reaffirm a commitment to diversity in legal education and the legal profession.

Each scholarship involves a substantial three-year commitment to worthy qualified students.  The vast majority of scholarships awarded are $10,000 yearly.

This program was created in response to the passage of SP-1, the University of California Regent's resolution to end affirmative action and race-based admissions at UC Schools.

Over 70 scholarships have been awarded to date!

How Can I Help?

BASF seeks the assistance of law firms, corporations, and individuals who are willing to help sponsor a scholarship.

Mentor a law student scholarship recipient by assisting with them with their writing, editing and research skills.

To become a mentor or for more information on sponsoring a scholarship, email Lauren Luke at lluke@sfbar.org.

How Does It Work?

There are two ways you can get involved:

  • With a three-year commitment of $10,000 a year, the scholarship(s) you sponsor can be named for your firm or other appropriate designation or memorial
  • Or you can donate a one time pledge of any amount to our Thurgood Marshall Scholarship fund

Your firm then earmarks its law school scholarship contribution for students attending an accredited Northern California law school or, preferably, support a student at any of the Bay Area's law schools.
