San Francisco Law Academy

Law Academy Summer Internships

Hire a BASF Law Academy intern for the Summer or donate to the scholarship pool—both make a difference in a student’s life forever.

Ever ask yourself in high school, "Why do I need to know this?" Internships make it all relevant.

What is the Law Academy?

The Law Academy is a Diversity Pipeline Program of The Bar Association of San Francisco. Its mission is to enrich high school education and motivate students to pursue a higher education and a professional career in the law.

What is the internship component?

Every summer, rising seniors work part time for six weeks in law, government and non-profit legal offices. Each student is mentored by attorneys and is prepared by the school district for the internships. Internships involve completing clerical tasks and job shadowing.

When are the internships?

The internships are June 18 – July 27.

What do students earn?

Each student is paid a scholarship in the amount of $680. The legal community makes tax deductible donations to a scholarship pool.

How can I help?

  • Sponsor only: the firm or individual donates to the scholarship pool; student(s) will work in a government or non-profit legal office (every $680 places one student)
  • Hire only: a sponsored student will work in your office without any financial commitment by your office
  • Sponsor and Hire: the firm donates to the scholarship pool and employs a student

Benefits of hiring an intern

  • Publicity for your firm as a supporter of San Francisco public schools and BASF Diversity Pipeline programs
  • Opportunity to promote to your clientele that your firm supports BASF Diversity Pipeline programs
  • A chance for employees to develop and practice leadership and mentoring skills with under served and diverse students
