Low Income Taxpayer Clinics LITC represent low income taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service, assist taxpayers in audits, appeals and collection disputes and can help taxpayers respond to IRS notices and to correct account problems. Each clinic determines whether prospective clients meet income guidelines and other criteria before agreeing to represent them.

The Justice and Diversity Center's LITC assists low-income taxpayers with various tax controversies with the Internal Revenue Service, including:

  • IRS collection processes
  • Refund Issues
  • Audits
  • U.S. Tax Court proceedings
  • Innocent Spouse claims
  • Numerous other controversies with the IRS

Volunteering with the Justice and Diversity Center's (JDC) Tax Project is a great opportunity to gain more experience with a montor's help, become more involved in individual cases, and represent clients. JDC pre-screens all matters and cases, and provides malpractice insurance. This training will be given by Tax Project Supervising Attorney Amy Spivey.

Before you volunteer with this project, we ask that you attend this free MCLE training session. If you have any questions or concerns, please email or by phone at 415-782-8996.

Pre-registration is required to attend. Please note that you must be a California licensed attorney to attend this training and you will be asked for your state bar number.
