Clinic Focused: Intro to Consumer Debt and Defense Training

What: The Consumer Advocacy Project (CAP) holds once monthly free clinics for low income clients to get confidential, professional legal advice and legal services.

The training covers all of the common issues and services attorney volunteers will encounter at the Clinic along with step by step instructions for providing assistance. Topics include:


  • Overview of Debt Collection Litigation
  • Steps for Volunteering at the Clinic
  • Consultation with Client who Just Learned they are being Sued
  • Consultation with a Client who needs Discovery Responses
  • Consultation with a Client who needs a Request for Statement of Evidence and Witnesses
  • Consultation with a Client who has received a Declaration in Lieu of Live Testimony
  • Consultation with a Client who needs to Review his/her Credit Report
  • Overview of Debt Collection Harassment
