In the current economic crisis, knowledge of consumer protection laws is critical to the adequate representation of clients. This free training provides an overview of consumer rights under the federal FDCPA and explains how to identify unlawful harassment and abuse by collection agencies and law firms. The training will be conducted by Robert Murphy, Esq. Mr. Murphy has over twenty years experience advancing consumer rights through courtroom advocacy and the education of families and individuals concerning consumer protection laws. This training is considered "advanced." Participants must have taken VLSP's "Consumer Defense: Training for the Non-Expert" or have prior consumer law experience. Current Consumer Clinic volunteers do not need to make an additional volunteer commitment to attend this training. New volunteers with prior consumer law experience are required to staff the Debt Defense and Education Clinic a minimum of three times within one year of the training. For information on how to register, please email vlsp@sfbar.org or call (415) 782-9000 x8759. Pre-registration is required.
