The Diversity and Equality Bundle provides MCLE programs around the theme of what minorities face in the legal world.

The Housing Crisis: An Access Crisis for People with Disabilities
10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

During this panel, attendees will learn about barriers to accessible housing confronting people with disabilities living in the Bay Area. The housing crisis affects us all, but panelists will discuss its particular impact on tenants and homeowners with disabilities. Attendees will also learn about how disability rights activists worked with Airbnb to improve access to the sharing economy for travelers with disabilities.

Powering Global Change: How Pro Bono Partnerships Advance Gender Equality
11:00 - 12:00 p.m.

This panel will address a significant barrier to women exercising or protecting their human rights: access to legal services. Lawyers play a critical role in defending human rights, but women around the world face financial, social, and geographical obstacles to obtaining legal representation and support. Pro bono partnerships among lawyers, firms, and organizations can help advance women's human rights globally. This panel will examine ways that volunteer lawyers from a variety of settings--law firms, in-house, non-profits, and those in career transitions--can partner to power global change and advance women's human rights. Panelists will discuss pro bono opportunities and engagement, as well as the challenges and potential of such partnerships.

For Cause or Not For Cause: A Voir Dire Demonstration
12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

When it comes to jury selection, multitasking is crucial. Managing the procedures, building a rapport with jurors, exposing jurors who are bad for your case, these are some of the many tasks associated with jury selection. In this program, mock jurors will respond to questioning from both plaintiff and defense counsel in a class action case. Both sides of the case will target their questions according to the mock juror's questionnaire responses. This panel will provide a live-action interaction and discuss best practices for questioning jurors in other cases.

Civil Litigation of Sexual Assault Cases in the #MeToo Era
1:00 - 2:00 p.m

The MeToo movement has encouraged many victims of sexual assault or abuse to come forward but litigating these cases requires unique considerations. This CLE will focus on how to bring a civil lawsuit on behalf of men, women, and children who survived assault, abuse, or rape. We will discuss how to work with the District Attorney’s office during and following the criminal prosecution of the abuser, who to file a civil lawsuit against, when to file the lawsuit, and what causes of action to consider. This panel will be especially useful for plaintiff-side lawyers who represent victims of sexual abuse or other lawyers interested in seeking justice for victims of sexual abuse.
