Bar Association of San Francisco Member Benefits: PublicationsVLSP Merges with the BASF Foundation

Profile of a Donor: Felicia Vallera

Felicia ValleraFelicia Vallera is Founder and Executive Director of The San Francisco Community Business Law Center. She is co-chair of BASF’s Business Law Section and was the 2005 President of the Barristers Club. A business transactional attorney, she has practiced in San Francisco since 1998 and is a faithful supporter of the Volunteer Legal Services Program.

BASF: What is the focus of your law practice?

Felicia Vallera (FV): I’m currently working as part-time interim corporate counsel at The Clorox Company while I organize and launch a new nonprofit legal aid center to support San Francisco’s low-income small business community. That means I get to work with a first class leading-edge international corporate legal teams and go after my community service dreams at the same time. I am one very lucky lady.

BASF: Why do you donate to VLSP?

FV: It’s a way of counting my blessings and giving thanks for the helping hands extended to me at times in my life.

BASF: What program are you most interested in supporting and why?

FV: HAP (Homeless Advocacy Project) – because when a good person who could contribute to our community is paralyzed by fear of sleeping on the street, we should all feel the pain.

BASF: What would you be if you weren’t a lawyer?

FV: A chef. I kinda doubt if I could make it as a yoga instructor.

BASF: What is your proudest accomplishment?

FV: I’m ridiculously over-educated, I’ve run Fortune 100 corporate divisions, and I’ve helped close deals that made the front page of the Wall Street Journal. But watching a formerly homeless mother of three successfully launch her own micro-business startup to feed her children really turned my definition of “accomplishment” on its head. The vision, creativity, and resilience of small business owners humbles and inspires me daily.

BASF: Do you have a favorite quotation?

FV: “Start where you are.” - Pema Chödrön
