Meet the Board: BASF Foundation President Pamela Fulmer

Ann KariukiBASF recently asked BASF Foundation president Pamela Fulmer of Jones Day some questions about her work with the Foundation and more.

BASF: What is the accomplishment you are most proud of during your term as a BASF Foundation board member, and now as president?

Pamela Fulmer (PF): I am most proud of our initiative to recruit in-house lawyers to serve on our board. There is so much legal talent working for our Bay Area companies, and the active participation of these folks on the board strengthens our leadership and helps boost our fundraising for those wonderful programs that our BASF Foundation supports.

BASF: What do you like to do in your spare time?

PF: I enjoy reading (love American history), genealogy research, socializing with my friends and spending time with my family, including my two happy and active Havanese dogs. I am a big fan of Apple products and relax making home movies with iMovie, which I share with my friends and family.

BASF: How do you manage work/life balance?

PF: You need to enjoy what you do so much that it doesn’t feel like work to you. And when you are spending time with your family, you need to be there for them and to give them your entire attention.

BASF: What was the last book you read?

PF: David McCullough’s biography of John Adams.

BASF: How do you feel about the work of the BASF Foundation?

PF: The purpose of the BASF Foundation is to raise money in order to support the critical programs of The Bar Association of San Francisco. I am very proud of the work that the Foundation does, which directly helps so many in our community. As lawyers we enjoy many benefits and blessings. We need to make sure that we give back to our communities, and never forget that many less fortunate than we are really depend upon us for assistance.

BASF: How has your affiliation with BASF helped you in your practice?

PF: I have really enjoyed my work with BASF as it has allowed me to meet new lawyers and connect with other former colleagues and friends that I have known but rarely seen in recent years. So my affiliation has been a wonderful way to network and renew older relationships and create new ones. I know that my work with the board has raised my visibility in the local legal community. My only regret is that I didn’t get more involved with BASF sooner.

BASF: Every attorney should ....

PF: Every attorney should make the time to get outside of the office and participate in some way with the local community. BASF is a great way to do so. If you don’t have time to be on the board, then make time to attend some of the events that BASF sponsors. And I firmly believe that every lawyer in San Francisco should make BASF part of their giving plan each year. Every donation is important to us, and we very much appreciate the generosity of those who support our programs through their gifts.

The BASF Foundation thanks Pamela Fulmer for her service to the organization.
