BASF Board Member Melinda Haag Confirmed as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California

The U.S. Senate unanimously confirmed President Obama’s nomination of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe’s litigation partner Melinda Haag as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of California in early August. Haag will supervise an office that oversees federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation on behalf of the United States, from Monterey to the Oregon border. She was recommended for nomination by U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer and is the first woman to hold the position in 90 years.
Since 2003, Haag has been a litigation partner in Orrick’s White Collar Criminal Defense and Corporate Investigations Group, which handles cases involving securities fraud, antitrust violations, environmental crimes, health care fraud and other matters. Prior to joining Orrick, she served in the San Francisco U.S. Attorney’s Office for five years, where she headed the White Collar Crime Unit and was the deputy chief of the General Crimes Unit. In addition, from 1989 to 1993, she served as a prosecutor in the Los Angeles U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Haag has served on the BASF Board since 2009 and was 2006 co-chair of BASF’s Work Life Balance Committee.
