Law Academy Needs Mentors

The Barristers Club Law Academy committee is currently recruiting legal professionals to mentor students this fall at Balboa High School in San Francisco.

The Law Academy is a program that encourages and increases career opportunities for underserved and ethnically diverse students. Creative and inspiring curriculum is built into several core classes where junior and senior students learn basic legal concepts. This important pipeline program depends on the generous support of lawyers in the community who are willing to serve as mentors to pre-law juniors.
Mentors will help with library research, writing, interview and presentation skills. The objectives of the mentorship include preparing the juniors for summer internships, presenting an existing social/economic issue that exists within the student’s community, and proposing solutions to that issue to community stakeholders.

Attorneys, law students, paralegals and other legal staff with a four-year college degree not specific to the practice of law are welcome as mentors. All mentors attend an orientation and will meet with students once a week for 90 minutes.

Through mentoring Law Academy students realize personal strengths that they may not otherwise discover. Sign up today—you can be the reason a high school student achieves academic success and becomes a lawyer.
