Bar Association of San Francisco Member Benefits: Publications

Join a BASF or Barristers Section for 2012 and Boost Your Professional Development

By Leonard Lun Director of Membership

As a busy attorney, it is easy to forget about your own professional development. Participation in sections and committees is one of the most important benefits of BASF membership. What are sections and committees? They are groups of attorneys who share a specific interest and/or expertise in an area of law. Sections covering many areas of law ranging from Environmental to Intellectual Property to Solo and Small Firm Practice, are available in both BASF and the Barristers Club.

Section membership provides valuable networking opportunities with other professionals, a way to share ideas and information on new developments in the law, and discounts on relevant continuing legal education seminars.

Committee membership offers unparalleled opportunities to work on important issues such as equality, ethics, future legislation, and community service.

Estate Planning, Probate, and Trust Section member and Former Chair Sheila K. Robello, Esq. of Solan & Park LLP had this to say about the benefits of section membership, “Being a section member of the Barristers Club allows you to learn about and attend CLE events specifically geared toward attorneys who are just beginning their careers. It also provides you with an opportunity to meet other young lawyers who are practicing in the same area and who may be facing the same challenges that you face as a new(er) lawyer. The Barristers Club sections also provide opportunities such as CLE events, socials, and fundraisers, where newly practicing lawyers can exchange ideas, share experiences, meet people with similar interests, and interact on a level that is often less formal and intimidating than the larger bar.”
