Help Inspire College Students to Make Law School a Destination

BASF’s Destination Law School (DLS) program is back for the
2011 – 2012 school year. DLS connects with college students interested in pursuing law school and legal careers. Students are actively involved in the year-long program and are excited to learn about the wealth of resources offered by BASF and DLS. One 2010 DLS student commented that by participating in the DLS presentations she learned that “[D]iversity does matter and that it is okay to be humble and honest, as well as intellectual. Every workshop gives me more knowledge and confidence in knowing that I can make a difference.”

Students attend monthly workshops at BASF with each event focusing on a different subject. The first two classes this fall will be taught by Richard T. Sakai, University of San Francisco School of Law, assistant professor and co-director of the Academic Support Program. In his classes, students will learn more about the law school classroom experience. Other workshops include insights and advice from admissions deans and directors, law students, and practicing attorneys.

DLS also travels to Bay Area college campuses where attorneys share their stories with pre-law students. This year, DLS will visit over ten colleges, including San Francisco State University, University of San Francisco, Mills College, UC Berkeley, Evergreen Valley College, City College of San Francisco, San Jose City College, UC Davis, and Sacramento State.

Students participate in all DLS workshops and panels at no cost. In collaboration with DLS, Kaplan also offers a significantly discounted 15-week LSAT preparation course in the summer.
