Off the Case: Q&A with Winslow & Hurtubise, Attorneys at Law

If you missed the October BASF Bulletin cover story detailing the Winslow & Hurtubise Lawyer Referral and Information Service referral case please read the article to find out more.

Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS): In last month’s BASF Bulletin we learned a lot about the large settlement award you reached with
Muni on behalf of a brain injured plaintiff. This month the Bulletin would like to learn more about the two of you. To begin, where did you grow up?

Jerry Hurtubise (JH): South Bend, Indiana.
Gregory Winslow (GW): Orange County, California.

LRIS: If you weren’t a lawyer, what would you be?

JH: Gardening has a lot in common with being a trial attorney; both require an enormous amount of patience and attention to detail. I think I would have been a decent gardener.

GW: A teacher. I enjoy captive audiences.

LRIS: How do you unwind after a stressful day?

JH: Writing has always been my passion. I was fortunate enough to have a collection of letters about growing up in the Midwest picked up by a publishing house.

GW: I have three children, a daughter in 8th grade and a mixed set of twins in the 4th grade. Playing with my kids, while they’re still young enough to be OK with, that is how I unwind.

LRIS: What strengths do you each bring to the partnership?

JH: Greg spends the lion’s share of his time thinking out complex legal issues and aspects of liability. I look at damages and do my best to prepare a way of showing to the jury why what happened should matter not only to the plaintiff, but to them as well.
GW: Jerry is the velvet glove and I’m the iron fist.

LRIS: Why did you become a lawyer?

JH: Serving justice truly is a progressive realization of a worthy ideal.

GW: I loved to debate and wasn’t very good at math.

LRIS: Why do you choose to be members of LRIS?

JH: LRIS provides a great service to the community and brings those who otherwise would not know where to go together with quality legal representation. It is a great marriage and I am proud to be a part of it.

GW: Over the years LRIS has referred us a wide variety of interesting, profitable, and challenging cases.
