Foundation Gala Surpasses Fundraising Goals

Bay Area Legal Community Continues to Give in Down Economic Times

The 2011 BASF Foundation Gala in late September netted more than a quarter of a million dollars for the Volunteer Legal Services Program and BASF’s diversity pipeline programs. The cocktail party format at the stately Bently Reserve Building in San Francisco’s Financial District attracted more than 600 members of the legal community to eat, drink, bid on the silent auction, and hear the inspiring stories of Renee Heidtman and David Abella. Renee is one of 7,000 clients assisted by VLSP last year; David was a 2007 recipient of a Minority Law Student Scholarship, and is now an associate at Hanson Bridgett LLP.

The Gala silent auction included unique chances for meetings with general counsel and other senior
counsel from major Bay Area corporations, including Google, Facebook, Zynga, Union Bank, ROSS Stores, Wells Fargo, Hewlett-Packard, Levi Strauss & Co., and Pacific Gas and Electric Corporation.
The theme of this important fundraiser was “The Gala’s in the Neighborhood,” and presented a delicious menu inspired by the city’s vibrant neighborhoods. Starting their journey at the open bar in the Haight-Ashbury, guests could travel from the “weeping tiger beef” and fried rice dishes of Chinatown to the gnocchi bar and tortellini of North Beach; from the seafood extravaganza of Fisherman’s Wharf to the multiple chocolate fountains in Ghiradelli Square.

The co-chairs of the 2011 Gala were Karen Kimmey of Farella Braun + Martel, a member of the BASF Foundation board; Isabelle Salgado of AT&T, and BASF board member; and Andrew Giacomini of Hanson Bridgett LLP.
