Grant from Wells Fargo Could Not Have Come at a Better Time

By Susan Cox, Director of Development, BASF

BASF’s Volunteer Legal Services Program received a grant of $15,000 from the Wells Fargo Foundation in November—generosity characterized by VLSP Executive Director Tiela Chalmers as “a real shot in the arm in a very difficult year.”

The funds will go to work immediately to support VLSP’s work for low-income families and individuals who are hit hardest by the economic downturn.

Our special thanks for their support to: Mario Diaz, Vice President, Social Responsibility Group, Wells Fargo Foundation; and Priya Sanger, Wells Fargo Senior Counsel and President of the BASF Board of Directors.

“Mario Diaz and the Wells Fargo Foundation have steadfastly supported the Wells Fargo Law Department’s commitment to BASF’s Volunteer Legal Services Program. Social responsibility is a core value of our Law Department, led by General Counsel James Strother, and of the Wells Fargo Foundation. I am confident that as BASF becomes more relevant to in-house law departments across the Bay Area, that in-house lawyers and their corporate foundations will follow Wells Fargo’s lead in giving generous support to BASF ‘s community programs aimed at improving quality of life and access to justice,” said Sanger.

In presenting the check, Diaz said, “We are proud to partner with BASF’s Volunteer Legal Services Program as you work toward achieving our shared goals in the community. We are delighted to assist your organization. Our best wishes for your continued success.”

Wells Fargo donated a record $21 million in 2009 to local nonprofits and schools serving the Bay Area, making it one of California’s top corporate givers.
