Inspire Students to Attend Law School; Share Your Experiences at a Destination Law School Workshop

By Lauren Luke, Diversity Pipeline Programs Manager

BASF’s award-winning Destination Law School (DLS) Program is now in full swing. The DLS Program provides information and resources about law school and the legal profession to diverse undergraduate students in colleges located in the Bay Area. The purpose of this program is to increase the number of diverse graduates who are going into law school. All students interested in law school and the legal field are welcome to attend these panels.

This fall, DLS visited San Francisco State University, Mills College, UC Berkeley, and we are in the process of scheduling Spring events at other Bay Area colleges. Panelists include attorneys from various firms, solo practitioners, professors, and current law students. Speakers have covered a wide variety of issues, including how to determine which law school is right for you, diversity in the legal community, how to prepare for the LSAT, and what exactly makes the 1L year so intense.

Students have given us great feedback. One student commented, “[The panelists] were very involved and engaging due to their experiences and genuine desire to help students.” Many say that these presentations inspire them to attend law school and have given them the tools to get started.

Last year, the DLS program reached students at nearly a dozen schools. DLS also provides students the opportunity to take discounted Kaplan LSAT courses and attend interactive workshops on topics of concern to future law students, such as career options as a lawyer, law school admissions and financial aid.

If you are interested in speaking on one of BASF’s DLS panels or working with DLS students, please contact Lauren Luke at dls@sfbar.org.
