By Jayne Salinger, Pipeline Programs Director

On November 16, BASF launched its Bottom Line Partnership Task Force report at a conference and reception. The report was an initiative of 2010 BASF President Arturo González of Morrison & Foerster. It studied the state of diversity in our legal community by focusing on minority partners, in-house counsel and managing partners in an effort to determine keys to success for those who have made partner.

More than 80 attorneys were interviewed with the task force compiling narratives, summaries and recommendation based on those interviews. This material was turned into an informational report that was released at the conference that featured panel discussions with Jill Dessalines, Assistant General Counsel, McKesson Corporation; Ed Lopez, Chief Legal and Administrative Officer, Silicon Image; Angela Padilla, Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, VMware, Inc.; Tracy Preston, Global HR & Litigation Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer, Levi Strauss & Co.; Kevin Fong, Partner, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, Steve Lowenthal, Partner, Farella Braun + Martel LLP; Peter Muñoz, Partner, Reed Smith; Eileen Ridley, Managing Partner, Foley & Lardner LLP, Jaron Shipp, Associate, Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, LLP; and Jennifer Shoda, Senior Associate, Snyder Miller & Orton LLP.

Directly following the conference was a reception celebrating the release of the report. The Minority Bar Coalition (MBC) was also on hand to present their 2010 Unity awards. The awards are given to attorneys representing the individual minority bars who have best shown a dedication to working in a unified manner to advance the cause of diversity in the legal profession. The Champion of Unity Award winner in 2010 was Jennifer Shoda, Senior Associate, Snyder Miller & Orton LLP.
