Profile of a Donor: Tony Schoenberg, Farella Braun + Martel

Tony Schoenberg is a member of the VLSP Leadership Council, a donor, and an active volunteer. He specializes in complex commercial litigation at Farella, Braun + Martel LLP. We recently asked him some questions about himself and his philanthropy.

BASF: Why do you donate to VLSP through the BASF Foundation?

Tony Schoenberg (TS): Without VLSP, people in the city with limited resources would really have nowhere to turn when faced with life-altering legal problems such as evictions, domestic violence and custody disputes. And VLSP relies on donor support to run its operations.

BASF: What program are you most interested in supporting and why?

TS: I see first hand the importance of VLSP’s Landlord-Tenant Clinic through my volunteer work as a Judge Pro Tem on landlord-tenant cases.

BASF: What would you be if you weren’t a lawyer?

TS: Rock musician.

BASF: What is your proudest accomplishment?

TS: Because of my good fortune in having a job that pays well, I have been able to provide financial help to certain family members, most notably to my mother who passed away last year after a long battle with cancer. The fact that I was able to ensure that she had the care she needed while she was ill and that she was able to live out her days in the comfort of her own home is probably my proudest accomplishment.

BASF: Do you have a favorite quotation?

TS: I’ve always liked this quote because of it’s truth and poetry, although it is not particularly uplifting. It’s the final line from The Great Gatsby: “So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”
