New Lawyers: Make a Difference and Enrich Your Career When You Participate in the Barristers Club

By Kaelyn Romey, U.S. Department of the Treasury, 2010 Barristers Club Treasurer

Seven years ago, I joined BASF’s Barristers Club as a new attorney. I was very impressed by the CLE choices, the range of committees, the section leadership opportunities, and the potential connections to new attorneys in my practice area.

Three years ago, I became a member of the Barristers Executive Board and worked to create a social and networking committee to increase the opportunities for new attorneys to connect with their peers. The committee’s innovative social and charity events are a huge success and a welcome addition to the Barristers program. We added quarterly happy hours, cross-over CLE seminars, community service days, a kickball tournament, guest bartender nights, and our new annual formal charity event, “The Crystal Ball.”

We also anticipate the roll-out of our “Speed-Mentoring” program this spring. Each new event exponentially increases in participation and raises money for very worthy youth causes in our community. The Social and Networking Committee continues to strive to meet your needs as a young lawyer in 2011.
Active participation and leadership in the Barristers Club has really enriched my experience as a young lawyer in San Francisco, I encourage you to get involved today! The Social and Networking Committee is seeking new members to participate in the 2011 Crystal Ball Committee. If you have the energy and time to help us increase the awareness of this event, we would love your support. We are eager to hear your ideas, and look forward to working with you to make the March 26, 2011 Crystal Ball a huge success!

Please email Social and Networking Committee Chair Nnena Ukuku at nnena.ukuku@gmail.com to get involved with the Crystal Ball.
