California Minority Counsel Program Foundation Awards $105,600 Grant to BASF’s School-To-College Program

BASF recently announced that the CMCP Foundation, a 501(c)(3) formed by California Minority Counsel Program (CMCP) to address the growing legal pipeline problem, has awarded more than $100,000 in grant seed funding to BASF’s School-To-College (STC) diversity pipeline program. The grant money
will allow STC to begin offering academic assistance to students at the Academy of Arts & Sciences high school in San Francisco.

STC is a yearlong high school mentoring curriculum that inspires underserved and ethnically diverse students to attend college. The new component, CMCP Academic Study Assistance Program (ASAP), will provide students in 9–12th grade with a tutor to assist in math and science.

“The California Minority Counsel Program decided to dissolve the CMCP Foundation, and in doing so we are pleased to distribute the last of the CMCP Foundation funds to BASF to provide seed money for this long-planned and valuable addition to BASF’s School-To-College program. We fully expect this new program to flourish under BASF’s guidance and with the support of the Bay Area legal community. CMCP is very excited to enter this new stage in our relationship with BASF, allowing each organization to focus on what it does best in the legal diversity arena,” said Marci Rubin, CMCP Executive Director.

“The Bar Association of San Francisco is deeply grateful to CMCP for its generosity in allocating these CMCP Foundations funds for the creation of the Academic Study Assistance Program. Their gift will allow BASF to enhance the important work we do through our School-To-College program and assist deserving students,” said Daniel Burkhardt, BASF executive director and general counsel.

An STC tutor will work with students for six hours per week each semester during the school term.
Founded in 1989, the California Minority Counsel Program’s mission is to promote diversity among the state’s attorney population by providing minority attorneys with access and opportunity for business and professional development.
