Super Lawyer Corporate Counsel Edition Recognizes Bingham Lawyers

Several Bingham lawyers were selected for inclusion in the May/June 2010 Super Lawyers Corporate Counsel Edition, which focused on the top lawyers in real estate and construction. Super Lawyers recognizes lawyers on a rolling basis throughout the year. BASF members recognized from Bingham include: Sanford Skaggs, Geoffrey Robinson, Edward Merrill, Carol Dillon and Cecily Talbert Barclay.


Former ACLU Attorney Honored

The American Jewish Committee (AJC) of San Francisco honored Ann V. Brick, former staff attorney of the ACLU of Northern California with its 2010 Judge Learned Hand award. The event was June 10.


Mark Porter Appointed Chair of State Bar Section

Fenwick & West recently announced that Mark Porter was appointed as Chair of the Executive Committee of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of California, beginning on September 26, 2010. Porter is Of Counsel in the firm’s Corporate Group.


Lieff Cabraser Attorney Honored

BASF Member Fabrice Vincent, Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, serves as a Subcommittee Chair for State Laws Subcommittee of the American Bar Association Section of Litigation. The Section of Litigation has recognized him as an Outstanding Subcommittee Chair for 2009-10. The award is given to attorneys for their dedication and hard work on behalf of the section during the year.

K&L Gates Attorney Honored

Ed Sangster, an attorney at K&L Gates, was inducted into the Litigation Counsel of America at the group’s 2010 Spring Conference and Induction of Fellows.

Orrick Managing Partner Honored

Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe Chairman and CEO Ralph Baxter was recently recognized with a spot on Law360’s list of Most Innovative Managing Partners.

According to the Law360 website, “Baxter was picked as one of Law360’s most innovative managing partners for his stewardship of a firm that has blazed the trail with creative billing models, its associate compensation structure and, more recently, its decision to abandon the profits per partner success metric.”

Alan R. Brayton is Recipient of Pursuit of Justice Award

The American Bar Association Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section is honoring Alan R. Brayton of Brayton & Purcell, with its Pursuit of Justice Award. The award recognizes lawyers and judges who have shown outstanding merit and who excel in providing access to justice for all.
The award will be presented during the 2010 ABA Annual Meeting in
San Francisco.

MTO Receives Diversity Award
The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) presented BASF Sponsor Firm Munger, Tolles & Olson with the 2010 Thomas L. Sager Award for the Western Region, its highest diversity honor given to law firms. The award is presented to law firms that demonstrate sustained commitment to improving the hiring, retention and promotion of minority attorneys
In addition to the recognition by the MCCA, MTO also placed second nationally on the The American Lawyer magazine diversity scorecard which rated 190 law firms.

O’Melveny & Myers Named to American Lawyer A-List
O’Melveny & Myers was recently named to The American Lawyer’s 2010 A-List, which recognizes the nation’s most elite law firms for stellar performance in the areas of revenue generation, pro bono commitment, associate satisfaction, and diversity representation. This is the firm’s third consecutive year on the list of 20 firms judged best at balancing the practice of law with their obligations to the profession.

Shook Hardy & Bacon and its Attorneys Recognized
Shook Hardy & Bacon was recognized by Who’s Who of Business Lawyers as the Product Liability Law Firm of the Year. The firm has received this honor six years in a row. Legal 500 recognized SHB as a “National Recommended Firm.” BASF members Frank Kelly and Grant Law were recognized as well.

Chambers and Partners launched its 2010 edition of Chambers USA, recognizing Shook, Hardy & Bacon’s product liability, environmental, and labor and employment practices. Along with the firmwide recognitions, the guide recognized Amor Esteban and Kevin Haroff.

Local Attorney Inducted into Litigation Counsel of America
BASF Member Gillian Thackray, a partner at Covington & Burling, was recently inducted into the Litigation Counsel of America (LCA) at their Spring Conference. LCA is a trial lawyer honorary society. Fellowship in LCA is highly selective and by invitation only.
