New Year’s Resolutions For Your Law Practice You Can Keep

Jump start 2013 with New Year’s resolutions for your law practice that are easy to keep. Looking to grow your practice and help more individuals, families and businesses in our community? Hoping to do more marketing to help that happen? Seeking to support meaningful legal programs that better the lives of the less fortunate and diversify the legal profession? Accomplish all these objectives in 2013 by submitting an application to receive case referrals through the Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) of The Bar Association of San Francisco. Our half-year membership rates begin now so it costs 50 percent less to start receiving client referrals.

LRIS receives 50,000 requests each year for legal assistance. Trained, multi-lingual legal interviewers carefully screen whether a potential client’s legal matter merits referral to a lawyer or whether one of over 250 community agencies is a more appropriate referral to address the client’s needs. Viable cases are referred according to the type of legal matter so attorneys receive only the area of practice referrals they select.

As an LRIS panel attorney you benefit from our outreach campaigns that bring potential clients to the program and to you. We utilize outreach opportunities through Muni, television, radio, social media, and the Internet, and regularly collaborate with the courts, city supervisors, the mayor’s office and countless other community-based organizations to intersect with the public. In addition, LRIS is visible at resource fairs and events in the community. This past year LRIS participated in San Francisco’s Small Business Week, faculty enrichment days at San Francisco City College, the Pistahan Filipino festival, San Francisco and LBGT Chambers of Commerce events, and resource events to assist veterans.

The forwarding fees received from cases referred to LRIS panel attorneys are put back into enhancing the service, augmenting community outreach and making donations to BASF’s charitable programs through the LRIS Fund for Public Service. The fund helps to support BASF’s Volunteer Legal Services Program and its programs, such as School-To-College and the Bay Area Minority Law Student Scholarship Program. Last year, we were privileged to contribute proceeds from the fund to help support scholarship recipient Yannina Casillas, who is attending her first year of law school at UC Hastings College of the Law.

LRIS helps you make a difference for the community while growing your law practice. The process is simple: call or email LRIS Membership Coordinator Yvonne Ng at 415-782-9000 x8750 or yng@sfbar.org. Make this the year that LRIS helps you keep your New Year’s resolutions attainable and sustainable!
