New CLE Section Will Focus on Issues Relevant to Senior Attorneys

BASF recently launched a Senior Lawyers section devoted to the professional and personal interests of attorneys who have been in practice at least 25 years or have reached the age of 55.

This section will have a special focus on assisting attorneys who are considering retiring in the near future. The new section, chaired by Anne D. O’Niell of Hinshaw & Culbertson, aims to provide seminars and information on:

  • Employment: contract work, flex time, moving to part time, etc.
  • Pro bono opportunities: local, national and international
  • Transitioning your practice: ethical considerations, selling your business, assigning cases
  • Financial planning
  • Full-time or part-time law practice and other areas of employment
  • Pro bono and civic service
  • Mentoring young attorneys
  • Serving on boards of directors for business and charitable organizations
  • Lecturing and writing

Attend the March 14 organizational meeting and meet other senior lawyers from all areas of practice. This first program will feature speaker Michael Sorgen, who has extensive experience in international pro bono legal work, as well as Michelle Johnings Siefert, Senior Legal Recruiter, Fillmore Search Group. Additional speakers will also provide an overview of some of the ethical and practical issues that must be considered when ending a practice; a discussion on options for part-time, flex-time and project-based work for lawyers interested in continuing their legal work in semi-retirement; and a review of the issues that must be addressed in personal planning for retirement.

Future programs will address these topics in depth, as well as other pro bono opportunities, travel and recreation, service on boards and other kinds of community work, and other popular topics. Register online at
