BASF Makes Significant Impacts in 2012 Through the Power of its Members

Don’t forget to renew your BASF membership for 2013! Through the power of our members in 2012, BASF made a meaningful and significant impact in the Bay Area legal community. BASF and its members led the charge, tackling important issues as well as creating and running programs benefitting the community.

To highlight some items, our organization has and will continue to play a pivotal role in responding to the San Francisco and California court funding crisis, an issue significant to many of our members. BASF also spearheaded the effort to have the San Francisco Board of Supervisors vote to make San Francisco the first “Right to Civil Counsel” city in the nation and won the bid to launch this program providing pro bono legal services to low-income individuals in unlawful detainer cases.

February 27 POLL SpeakersIn 2013, BASF will launch two exciting programs: Political Opportunities for Leadership by Lawyers (POLL) and Mind the Gap (MTG).

POLL is a four-part series that began January 29 and provides practical advice, training, and inspiration from attorneys who serve on boards and commissions, and from those who practice political law. The next seminar, “A Day in the Life of a Politician,” will be on February 27. Speakers include Louise Renne, Public Law Group, Former Supervisor and City Attorney for the City and County of San Francisco; Nancy O’Malley, Alameda County District Attorney and David Chiu, President, Board of Supervisors, City and County of San Francisco.Mind the Gap

The goal of the Mind the Gap program is to provide recent law school graduates who are unemployed or underemployed with skills training, practice and business information, mentors, a conduit for hiring firms and potential contract lawyers, and information about possible law school loan debt reduction.

BASF consistently serves as a valuable resource and helps our members in their practice of law. Dan Dean, Fotouhi Epps Hillger Gilroy Mau, PC, has this to say about the value of membership, “I benefit from my BASF membership on a daily basis. I get cases from the Lawyer Referral and Informatiomn Service. I gain knowledge and practical support from the CLEs and the solo/small firm listserv. I interact with other attorneys at the various events. All and all, my membership makes me a better lawyer.”
