BASF Because…

Carolyn Lee

Firm: Abkin Law, LLP

The firm specializes in federal and state tax controversy including litigation.

Law School: Golden Gate University, School of Law. JD 2007; LLM Tax 2008.

Without GGU Law, I wouldn’t be an attorney. I became a lawyer while working as a bank marketeer. The GGU evening programs let me keep my day job. My LLM in Tax continues to be indispensable.

Carolyn LeeArea of Practice: Tax controversy of all types, with an emphasis on thorny matters.

I initially joined BASF because…

Transitioning from the corporate world meant I didn’t know many lawyers. BASF solved that problem and provided instant community.

I stay a BASF member (and now donate to VLSP when I can) because of...

The community, the commitment to serve people who need a lawyer but can’t afford one, the life-changing pipeline programs, and the activism. The action around the 2012 court funding crisis and the new Mind the Gap program (www.sfbar.org/mind-the-gap) for brand new attorneys are just two examples that demonstrate BASF’s relevancy.

I ask you to get involved, to whatever extent you can! There is much to be done and great satisfaction in doing so. (The happy hours are terrific, too.)

I am part of a section’s leadership because...

Really, it’s the community, in terms of the opportunity to both connect with and serve our fellow new lawyers. Plus, there is the education. If you want to learn about something, the experts invariably say yes to an invitation to put on a CLE.

Carolyn has been a BASF member since 2006 and served as the Barristers Club Vice President in 2012.
We thank her for her continued support.
