Volunteer Spotlight: Trenton Montgomery

By Stephanie Bilinski, VLSP Supervising Attorney

The Volunteer Legal Services Program (VLSP) is pleased to recognize Trenton Montgomery as our volunteer of the month for July 2012. Although he has only been on VLSP’s family law panel since January, Trenton has become one of VLSP’s most active volunteers. He has already represented 16 clients this year through VLSP’s Family Law Project which assists low-income clients with family law issues such as divorce, custody of children, and domestic violence.

Trenton MontgomeryMontgomery relocated to San Francisco after graduating from the University of Dayton School of Law. He became licensed to practice in California in the Fall of 2011, hung out a shingle and immediately began to offer his services to VLSP. He graduated law school with the sole intention of practicing Criminal Defense Law, but found through this work with VLSP that he enjoys practicing Family Law as well. He found that he gets to work closely with a wide variety of people and help them with issues that are important to them.

Montgomery says, “As a new attorney, I knew that I needed to find avenues that would give me as much experience as I could get. I quickly identified VLSP as a place where I could get that experience and help the community at the same time.”

In his spare time, Montgomery enjoys reading, hiking, camping, watching college basketball, and managing his online bookstore. VLSP is extremely grateful to Trenton Montgomery for his service and dedication. We are proud to have him as our volunteer of the month.

VLSP provides a free CLE training in Family Law for volunteers, as well as mentorships. To learn about pro bono opportunities with this project, please contact
