BASF’s 2012 Gala Benefits VLSP and Diversity Pipeline Programs

BASF’s 2012 Gala in late September netted more than a quarter of a million dollars for its Volunteer Legal Services Program (VLSP). The cocktail party format at the stately Bently Reserve Building attracted more than six hundred members of the legal community to eat, drink, bid on the silent auction, and hear the inspiring stories of a VLSP client and School-To-College participant.

Marva De Vear-NordzeeMarva De Vear-Noordzee, who, with her family, was a client of VLSP’s Eviction Defense Project, said, “We could not have stayed in our apartment without the help we have received from the great people at the Volunteer Legal Services Program.” Marva also thanked VLSP’s staff attorney Cary Gold and pro bono attorneys Nick Buehner of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and solo attorney Michell Nunez for their assistance with her case.

Allen Gomez participated in the Diversity Pipeline’s School-To-College, Law Academy, and Mock Trial programs. VLSP’s Law Academy program “showed me that college was attainable,” Allen said. “School-To-College then provided me with a road map to success.” Allen intends to go to law school after he graduates from college, and he credits VLSP’s Diversity Pipeline programs with giving him an introduction to the law and inspiring him to pursue his dreams.

BASF and VLSP extend their thanks to the seventy law firms and corporations who supported the Gala with their sponsorships and annual law firm contributions, as well as donors who participated in the “Lunch with a General Counsel” auction, silent auction, and raffle.
