VLSP Volunteer Lindsay Andrews Provides True Opportunity for Justice

By Jocelyn Whiteley, VLSP Legal Projects Coordinator and Manjari Chawla, VLSP Supervising Attorney, Federal Pro Bono Project

Lindsay AndrewsThe Volunteer Legal Services Program’s (VLSP) Federal Pro Bono Project is pleased to recognize Lindsay Andrews of Morrison & Foerster for her outstanding pro bono work. The project places federal civil cases with volunteer attorneys. Thanks to dedicated attorneys, pro se litigants benefit from exceptional legal assistance and have a true opportunity for justice. Lindsay exemplifies the steadfast commitment of the project’s volunteers.

When called upon to handle a federal trial, with a mere four days to prepare, Andrews not only stepped up, but did so with unparalleled enthusiasm. Although Andrews admits the time constraints during this case were challenging, Morrison & Foerster provided her with unrelenting support. When Andrews and Jason Malinsky, another associate, asked Partner James Brosnahan to co-chair a trial in just a few days, the response was a resounding “of course!” By participating in the Federal Pro Bono Project, Andrews received her first trial experience, an opportunity even seasoned attorneys often lack. “Pro bono work provides trial experience as well as experience in what it is like to have a client and fight for them,” she states. Although Morrison & Foerster did not win the four day trial, Andrews says the client was nevertheless pleased.

The judgment came after hours of deliberation and tears from the jury. As Andrews states, the client “felt his concerns had been heard and he trusted us, which seemed to be a new experience for him.”

Andrews has been with Morrison & Foerster for two years since graduating cum laude from Duke University School of Law with a J.D. and LL.M. in International and Comparative Law. At the firm she assists in securities, investigations, class actions, and employment and labor law. In her off time, Andrews enjoys biking and hiking.
