Troy Arnold Joins BASF as Director of Development

The Volunteer Legal Services Program of The Bar Association of San Francisco is pleased to welcome Troy Arnold as the new Director of Development. He joins VLSP with 16 years of fundraising experience working for a wide variety of nonprofits based in San Francisco.

Troy ArnoldTroy first learned about BASF and VLSP while working on the United Way Koko® Challenge Law Firm Campaign in the late 1990s and was immediately impressed by VLSP’s ability to harness thousands of hours of pro bono counsel to provide legal services to low-income and underserved San Franciscans. He is equally enthusiastic about the Diversity Pipeline and Youth programs and all they do to serve the com-munity. Through his experience with workplace giving campaigns in many of San Francisco’s largest law firms, Troy also has witnessed first-hand the generosity of the legal community—through donations, volunteering, and genuine caring.

While Troy currently is focused on keeping on track to meet and exceed the Gala’s $350,000 fundraising goal, in the long run he believes BASF needs to increase what is raised from individual donors, including reaching out to potential donors who don’t work in the legal profession. Troy sees increased individual contributions as a key strategy to ensure VLSP can provide services as other funding sources become increasingly scarce. Key elements of this work will be to learn what motivates current generous donors to fund VLSP’s charitable mission and to collect and share compelling stories about people who have benefited from the work. Troy says “Like many nonprofits, we do so much good work in so many different areas; it’s challenging to concisely answer the question of what difference supporting VLSP makes for individuals, families and the community at large. Once we can tell that story, it should become clear to anyone in San Francisco that VLSP is an essential community asset worth directly funding, protecting and growing.” He also says he’s looking forward to meeting you.
