Gala Co-Chairs and Committee Members Gear Up for September 20

Thanks to the support of more than 75 of the city’s leading law firms, the 2012 Annual Gala will raise more than $350,000 this year. This significant source of income for BASF’s Volunteer Legal Services Program’s (VLSP) free legal services and diversity pipeline programs will take place on Thursday, September 20. More than 600 partners, associates, judges, corporate counsel and other friends will come together to celebrate a legal community that’s a national model of engagement, concern and support for people who might otherwise be forgotten.

The gala will take place at the Bentley Reserve, (BASF’s home for the past five years), continuing the popular success of the format of recent years with gourmet food stations, an open bar and a silent auction. Special guests this year will include members of the judiciary and more than fifty in-house and general counsel from area corporations.

The funds raised by the gala are critical this year. City services are being curtailed, dropping more low-income and at risk people into the safety net provided by our free legal services programs. This spring brought many more applicants for minority law student scholarships than could be helped. Financial aid for college is more difficult and competitive than ever, leaving low-income and diverse high school graduates at underserved schools even lower on the success ladder.
