Bar Association of San Francisco Barristers Club Committees

Pro Bono and Community Service

The goal of the Pro Bono and Community Service Committee is to connect attorneys, law firms and a diverse range of non-profit organizations in an effort to increase pro bono opportunities in the Bay Area and also to encourage more attorneys to give back to the community through pro bono work.

Historically, the committee has assisted with the following programs:

Pro Bono Resource Guide: The committee has assembled a comprehensive guide to facilitate attorney involvement in Bay Area non-profit organizations. The Resource Guide provides contact information, mission statements and a brief description of the pro bono opportunities available at each individual organization.  This is an ongoing committee project and the committee is always looking for new non-profit organizations that may need volunteer legal assistance and would like to be included in the Resource Guide.

The Resource Guide is revised and updated by the committee every year and is introduced to the San Francisco legal community. Download the Pro Bono Resource Guide (1.1MBpdfPDF).

If you are a Bay Area non-profit provider and you would like your organization to be included in next year’s Resource Guide, please contact barristers@sfbar.org.

CLE Seminars:  The committee hosts CLE events that focus on pro bono orientated topics. In previous years the seminars have focused on corporate governance of non-profit organizations, the responsibilities arising out of service on the board of a non-profit organization and the employment and tax implications of working with or representing a non-profit organization.

Barristers Club Community Service Events:  The committee will be coordinating volunteer service events each year for Barristers members, colleagues, friends and family.
