Arne Werchick is presently Presiding Arbitrator of the State Bar of California, adjudicating jurisdictional and other disputes in the State Bar Mandatory Fee Arbitration program, presiding over the administration of the MFA program, and representing the State Bar in enforcement of unpaid fee awards. He has been a Judge pro tem for the San Francisco Superior Court and also in Nevada County Court serving as a small claims court judge. From 1998 to 2003 he was an Administrative Law Judge pro tem for the California Office of Administrative Hearings in which capacity he adjudicated complex medical-legal questions involving inmate rights by conducting hearings in Folsom and Vacaville prisons. In 2005 he served as Chair of the State Bar Committee on Mandatory Fee Arbitration. He is a former president of the California Trial Lawyers Association and former adjunct assistant professor of law at Hastings College of the Law. Werchick has over forty years broad civil litigation experience including medical malpractice, legal malpractice, attorney fee disputes, business and contract disputes, product liability, personal injury, real estate, construction defect, homeowner association issues, and elder financial abuse. He is an experienced arbitrator and mediator well able to assist in these and similar matters. His formal mediation training includes Commercial Mediation, 40 hours (ADRA); Fee Dispute Mediation and Arbitration, 11 hours (The Bar Association of San Francisco); and Advanced Mediation, 13 hours (John Paul Jones Group). His community adjudication and resolution experience includes service as a Commissioner on the Palm Desert Rent Review Commission, a Commissioner on the Town of Truckee Planning Commission, a member of the Tahoe Donner Architectural Standards Committee, and even as a certified umpire, USTA NorCal Section.
