Areas of Experience: Due Diligence of Life Insurance, Financial Planning, Fraud Investigations, Litigation Support Services, and Pension Plan Investment Products

Elizabeth H. Shwiff, CFE, CPA, PFS, CFP, AEP is a Partner and Director of Practice Development of Shwiff, Levy & Polo, LLP, where she provides tax advice for clients in a variety of industries, financial planning, fraud investigations, litigation support services, due diligence of life insurance and pension plan investment products.

Shwiff founded the CPA firm in 1989 and grew the firm to 12 professionals and won the award of being Number 60 in the annual ranking of the Bay Area's "Top 150 Fastest Growing Private Companies" in 1999. She has seen the firm through partnership dissolution, mergers and de-mergers. In 1996, she handled numerous tax support engagements for a family law attorney who uses mediation in her divorce practice. Two years later, she began the formal study of the procedures involved in mediation and became a mediator for the San Francisco Office of Citizen's Complaints and the San Francisco Community Boards handling many different types of disputes.

In 1995, Shwiff planned and managed the team which conducted a comprehensive financial evaluation of an international financial services company. Wells Fargo compliance officers, along with federal regulators, were considering closure of a client's international wire transfer account (processing $40,000,000 annually) due to suspicious banking activity. The procedural audit involved tracing of funds flow and an investigation and analysis of the client's various business activities. A 1,000 page report to Wells Fargo Bank resulted in the degree of comfort necessary for the Bank to continue accepting these international funds. The client also received recommendations for installation of tracking and monitoring procedures.
